History of Bethel Funerals, a not-for-profit Australian Christian Company

Bethel Funerals is committed to providing Christian care for grieving families with all their profit directed to the Wycliffe Bible Translators mission for the support of their members and the training of national Christian leaders.

Wycliffe Bible Translators was founded in the 1930s with the goal of seeing every language in the world written down, its people literate and, most importantly, the Bible translated for them so everyone could read God’s word for themselves.

Today they have over 6000 missionaries worldwide and there are still more than 2000 languages to translate. Wycliffe’s goal is to have started work in all of them by the year 2025.

"My word ... always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it."

Isaiah 55:11

How Bethel was launched

Wycliffe in Australia has an investment arm called Word Investments Ltd (WIL) to generate funds and disburse them to support Missionaries and their projects. WIL launched Bethel Funerals in Melbourne in 1997 as a not-for-profit Christian service locally to grieving families committed to directing all their profits to Wycliffe Bible Translators.

Having been well accepted in Melbourne and experiencing vigorous growth, a Board was formed to expand Bethel Funerals into Queensland.

We launched the same not-for-profit service in South-East Queensland on July 1st, 2007.

Bethel’s office and Chapel in Upper Mount Gravatt means we can reach out in service to families anywhere in Greater Brisbane and the Gold and Sunshine Coasts.

Perhaps Bethel is the only company where you can be sure that the profit from your funeral will be invested to go on working through the lives of folk who will be trained to go on serving God.
