Dear Merle and family. How shocked and deeply saddened I am to read the news of Alan's passing. My World Book days hold such beautiful, positive memories. May you rest in God's love as He wraps His arms around you and yours.

Dearest Merle, and all your lovely Family, I, too, was shocked to read of Alan's passing. We shall keep him in our prayers I have so many wonderful memories during my World Book days with you and Alan. We were fortunate enough to share them with you and other World Bookers at our home before you both left for Townsville. L<3?VE and prayers to you all from Elaine and Alan Casonati and Family, Brisbane.

Dear Mrs Anderson, I only knew Alan from his time here in Townsville but it was clear that he was a wonderful man of God. Condolences to you and your family for your great loss. May the peace of the Lord be always with you.

Today we farewelled grandpa from his long-standing position as pastor of Morningside Uniting Church. It was a beautiful service shared with many loved ones.

To Dearest Merle, We were greatly saddened to here this week of your beloved Alan's passing, in what seemed to us to be so suddenly. We have always viewed both Alan and Merle as World Book's greatest managers and over the years were so privileged to learn much from their wise business and people council. So many of life's greatest pleasures are shared with real friends - we have always viewed both Alan and Merle Anderson as exactly that... Alan has always "lived" his faith through example, rather than preaching, so we are confident that his beloved Saviour will be welcoming him into his arms with a "well done, faithful servant"... Our prayers and thoughts will be with you all on Friday, along with thousands of World Bookers throughout Australia and the World. Shed tears yes, but celebrate a full and wonderful life of true service! Tiger and Matey Smith Orange NSW

Dear Merle and Family, We mourn with you the loss of Alan. We also celebrate his life and thank God for Alan’s love and compassion for the one. Thank you for sharing the last 12 months with us all in Townsville

Dear Merle, Our love thoughts and prayers are with you as you celebrate the life of Alan . The selfless giving of yourselves to our Aitkenvale Congregation, and our Home Group, has left a lasting legacy which will be long remembered. Our condolences also to your family. We have all lost a wonderful friend. Blessings.

LIFE WAS GOOD Our life holds a balance of sunshine and rain, brightness and sadness- Some pleasure and some pain; there often are thorns with the loveliest of flowers, but then there rainbows to follow dark showers. So let's keep our faith that though nights are long - there'll always be morning with blue sky and song and as Alan led us on his merry way we were all touched by his comfort while leading the perfect life with Merle, but never too busy to help others. Our thoughts are with you Merle. Alan and Diane Robins

Dear Merle and family, it was a big shock to hear of Alan's death so soon after he left here in North Queensland. It was a real blessing to get to know you both in the time you were here in Townsville. Our love and prayers are with you all as you celebrate Alan's life and ministry. It was a privilege to share our times of fellowship and prayer as Uniting Church colleagues in ministry. I know that the congregation at Aitkenvale came to really appreciate and love you both. Blessings to you all at this sad time. Rev Bruce Cornish

Dear Aunty Merle, Morris and Denise, We just want you to know that we are really sorry to hear about the passing of Uncle Alan, he was a wonderful man and was cherished by everyone who knew him. Our heartfelt condolences to you and your families. May he Rest In Peace.

Dear Merle and family, The following poem is for you as we gp through this sad time together. HE HAS GONE --by David Harkins You can shed tears that he is gone, Or you can smile because he has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that he'll come back, Or you can open your eyes and see all he's left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see him, Or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember him only that he is gone, Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back. Or you can do what he'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

Dear Morris, dear Merle and Family Please accept my sincere condolences. Alan was a wonderful person and I treasure the times I met him on the visits to Switzerland. Rest in Peace Alan.

Wonderful memories of "Church Crawls" and "Kingdom Travels"by land and sea organised by Alan and Merle with Rob and Barbara, and gratitude for Allan's energetic Christian example, guidance and care with Merle quietly by his side. Love and sympathy to Merle, and God's Peace to her and family members.

We are saddened by Alan's passing. We will never forget the wonderful service Alan and Merle selflessly gave to the community. Our thoughts are with the family

On behalf of the World Book family across Australia we send our sincere condolences to Merle, Morris, and Denise, their families and friends. The world has lost an outstanding human being. A man full of love warmth and compassion. We're sure he will receive his reward in heaven. All our love Robyn Nevin and his World Book family.

Dear Merle, Morris, Denise and families, We are so fortunate to have known Alan and to have shared laughs and memories recently. What a generous family to have shared such a treasure. Love lives for ever.

Dear Merle & Family We extend our sincere condolences to you all. We grieve with you but not as those who have no hope. Alan often preached of Jesus' soon return bringing his saints with him. We shall see him again just as Jesus promised. If ever anyone deserved the words "Well done good and faithful servant" it is Alan. We are blessed that our lives were touched with Alan's gentleness, grace, wisdom and faithful Bible teaching. We are better people for having known Alan. May God comfort your hearts with the sure knowledge that Alan's faith has now become reality for him and may you savour the many memories of Alan's life of faithful service. With Jesus' family love Jeff & Maureen

As a frequent visitor to the Uniting Church I came to admire Alan, not only for his inspiring and brilliant Sermons, but for his care, with his ever loving Merle by his side, of the frail and dying parishioners. Also I travelled with Kingdom Travellers and joined in the many musical and fellowship evenings hosted by ever welcoming Alan and Merle. Merle was always on hand to quickly find anything Alan mislaid. I consider knowing Alan one of my many blessings. May God bring comfort and peace to his loved ones.

Our sincere condolences to all the family and friends in this sad time, our thoughts are with you all today and always. Much love

Dearest Merle, Our thoughts & prayers are with you & the family during this difficult time. Alan & you have touched our lives in such a beautiful way. Knowing both of you has been one of our dearest memories on our journey in Australia and we are grateful for that. May God always comfort you and the family.

Shocked to hear of Alan's death. Really enjoyed sharing with him and Merle at the Combined Churches activities in Townsville. He was a blessing! Appreciated his deep thought and wisdom. much love to all the family.

Me and My Family from Indonesia are sending our deepest Condolence to Merle and all family in Brisbane. JOB 1:21 "The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.”

To Alan Thank you for presence, your gentleness and wisdom. A man of duty, a man of love, a man who could find the good in all situations and always had a word of encouragement. I enjoyed our conversations and celebrate your love of history and its importance for society today. I didn't get to spend a great deal of time with you, but what time I had i count as precious. To Merle and your family I wish to express, my love and condolences at the loss of your husband, companion and love, as well as a dad, mentor and life giver to his family. God bless you all and thank you for sharing Alan with us in Townsville Bruce and Sandra McCarthy

Merle, Morris, Denise and families Over the years in World Book and the time that has past, M&A have been keeping in touch with us all. We are all so much enriched for having encountered Alan. HE IS GONE You can shed tears that he is gone, Or you can smile because he has lived. You can close your eyes and pray That he will come back, Or you can open your eyes and See all that he has left. Your heart can be empty because You can’t see him, Or you can be full of the love that you have shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow And live yesterday. Or you can be happy for tomorrow Because of yesterday. You can remember him and only that he is gone, Or you can cherish his memory And let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, Be empty and turn your back, Or you can do what he would want. SMILE, OPEN YOUR EYES, LOVE AND GO ON……

Merle, it is with a heavy heart that we send to you our sympathy at this difficult time. We thank you for the wonderful pastoral care and ministry you both shared with us. Alan often put his own health needs aside as he reached out to serve and comfort others. He was truly "a man for others" and we are grateful to you and Alan for so selflessly ministering to us at Aitkenvale UC. We shall continue to remember you in our prayers.

Sending to the whole family our sincere condolence, and to you, Morris, our deep concern and love in this difficult time. Be sure, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

In visiting Alan in his final days, I asked him for his advice in retirement to someone going into ministry full time. He responded with some advice he'd gleaned from a tv preacher years earlier. 1. Preach the gospel. Many these days will soften the message or make it different to be more appealing but it's Christ's gospel and we're called to preach it. 2. Visit your people. Many find new strategies and ideas and ways to avoid this but it's still so important to visit your people. It will help you to understand them. Don't anticipate dinner, it places a burden on others to show the same hospitality, just go briefly and record all they told you for your questions next time. He told stories of how he'd told people he'd visit them in Townsville and as a result, 8 backsliders had returned to church attending/their faith and others who were on the way out resolved to stay. 3. Love the people and they will come. People want to know that you care Find ways to love them and they will find ways to come and hear your message. I'm glad he enjoyed the Turkish fig and I'm glad that he had something to offer his other visitors. I remember him as someone who always had a heart to give of himself - from meeting him and Merle in Shanghai to time in Israel to the yearly Christmas letter. I think now of him sitting with Jesus in heaven, joining the saints of people who are cheering us on in our own race, a race with current tears and sadness and a race which in God's strength we will continue to run, with eyes on Jesus, whose eyes are on us. May God's comfort and presence be tangible to you in the following days. May the same God who brought you together and gave you a life time of rich memories continue to walk with you through the next seasons and bring your heart comfort and your days His presence and tangible love. As the Jews love to say, 'may his memory be a blessing.'

Dear Morris and Pedro, we are so sorry for you. Our thinkings and hearts are with you. Your german familiy Konstanze and Andreas with Christiane, Heinrich, Alexander and Pi

Dear Merle, From the time we received the news of Alan's illness, and then of his passing, you have been very much in our thoughts and prayers. Sadly we were on a cruise and consequently unable to join with unable to join with you at the service. Phil first met you and Alan at World Book 51 years ago. Throughout you have demonstrated the caring, concern and compassion which exemplified your years at World Book and your ministerial work. As a consequence there are many Worldbookers in Australia, and Internationally, who will have lasting memories of you both. We shared the 'World Book Religion'
