I am beyond devastated to hear of this beautiful man's passing, but am relieved that he is in the warmth of Jesus's arms and he is no longer experiencing such an awful disease. He is an amazing man who fathered an amazing family. To dear Maree, Catherine, Juliette & Rebecca, please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of Derek. Although we didn't get to see each other often, we were blessed to know that our " neighbors " were one of a kind.... Fly like a bird dear DEREK <3 R.I.P

We had the privledge of meeting you camping a few years back , what a beautiful family man you were ! Maree and Girls our thoughts are with you at this time and pray for Gods strength and Peace xxx Much love

Dearest Derek, Thank you for all the laughter, Hainanese chicken rice dinners, small group nights playing your guitar and your generous heart. You've certainly ran a good race for our Lord. The memories of you will forever remain in your beautiful wife and daughters. Until we meet again, love you forever...

Our deepest sympathies to Maree and family on the passing of Derek. Primacy was lucky to leverage Derek's extensive experience - his leadership, encouragement and wry sense of humour were always to the fore. Also, he was our "go to" man to source of quality cheap lunches in the CBD! Most of all though, he was a much loved and respected member of the Primacy team and will be sorely missed.

No farewell words were spoken, No time to say goodbye, You were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why. Rest In Peace. from Joseph your cousin in England.

Derek was very dear to us - like a son. He has had many words of love and appreciation posted here. They include all that we would have said about this loving and brave man. To Maree , Kathryn, Juliet and Rebecca we send our love and condolences. Maree - I want you to know that Derek loved you and he always will. He once said to me " "I believe God sent Maree to me" You grieve but know this. Derek will always be with you - his wife and soul mate.

Our deepest sympathy to Maree and the girls. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Maree, Our sincere and heartfelt condolences on passing of Your dear Husband and Dad. Derek was such a beautiful, courageous and generous man, even in his darkest hours he was concerned about well-being of others. When he learned early this year that I had a steel rope in my 4wd winch, he got me a safe, synthetic rope and made sure I knew how to fit it... Derek, you are sorely missed on this side of heaven, but we are comforted in the knowledge that you are home victorious and in good shape. Looking forward to meeting you again on that Great Day!

Derek -We had many shared memories of our late teens/university and early adulthood. I still recall them and I remember you with great fondness. little things - your mini cooper S - your extraordinarily slow eating at fast food restaurants. Always a gentle and considered soul. Sadly I haven't seen you for many years but have felt always felt a little connected through David. I see that you have touched many lives and created a lasting legacy in your family and a lasting memory in me. My condolences to your family. Frank Dalle Nogare

Fond old memories of a friend who will be greatly missed and never forgotten. I first met Derek when we were both in our late teens. We shared some good times together in those “Saturday Night Fever” days. I remember his groovy style, his sense of humour, his can-do attitude, his passion for photography, his guitar and fondness of music by the group called Bread. I particularly remember one of his first cars – a green Toyota Sprinter and a trip in that car to Margaret River when we slept in it near the river. It was a cold night so we kept the engine running all night in order to run the heater to stay warm. We left the windows down a little to keep them from fogging up. I remember waking to a swarm of mosquitos that had found their way into the car and were making a real feast of us. The car was Derek’s pride and joy – pity he didn’t seem to know that the oil required changing now and then! My deepest condolences to your devoted wife Maree, and lovely daughters Juliet, Kathryn and Rebecca Rest in Peace my friend. John

To our dearest friend and his family, This is such a sad moment as we all recall many, many fond memories of the time we shared with Derek. His positive attitude and his never give up approach to everything in his life will always remain vivid in my memory. Your laughter and unique style and your friendship and love will be surely missed not only by your family but also by all of us having the privilege of being able to call you our friend. May you rest in peace Derek and my deepest condolences and wishes to to your wife Maree and to all of your loving family.

We remember Derek best from the time he lived with us in Claremont, WA before he met and married Maree and moved to Melbourne, he loved his car very much and going on exotic holidays. One time we suggested he take a really different type of holiday revisiting Penang but staying in a small bed and breakfast rather than an hotel and there he met lovely Maree! Great and Happy Memories of their courtship and marriage when we were all young. Our deepest sympathy and much love to Maree and the girls.

Dearest Maree, Kathryn, Juliet and Rebecca We are so sad to say goodbye to our dear friend Derek. We consider your family as our own family. We will always cherish the moments we spent together. It's hard to express how to feel right now. We wish we could be with you. Perhaps a hug and a cry together would say much more than these words. We wish all the comforting love of family, friends and the Holy Spirit to accompany you in the days ahead. We love you guys. We will miss Derek very much! Dave, Laurence, Damien and Breandan

So many years passed & didn't get to see you cousin. Will meet when the lord prepares it so.

Just wanting to share something about Derek that transform my life. Besides his amazing love for his family, his love for food and his love for movies, Derek also loves reading his bible book by book. We used to meet on a Monday night and Derek will put a Chuck Missler mp3 on, sat on his favourite chair with his eyes closed and just meditating on the words of God via Chuck, occasionasly reaching out for a chilli chip. For those who does know Chuck, he is an American bible teacher and he taught with a King James bible, not a good combination for a chinese. While Derek was mediating, we siting at his back will be snozing off at time . It will be lovely, for this week or this month, we read a book in the bible. Some books are only a few pages long. It would amazing if we can read the book of Roman, Derek's favourite book. Knowing Derek, I see him running to Apostle Paul shouting "Paul, Paul, look, look , my friends down under are reading your book." Paul puts his right hand over Derek's shoulders and says "Thank you son, you did well"

Thanks Maree For sharing Derek with our family. Cynthia, Amanda and Stephanie send their deepest condolences. An amazing story just ended on earth but his legacy is forever with us. A new chapter opens in heaven. God bless An Amazing family Karen, Cynthia, Amanda, Stephanie, Yu Fook
