Burial Services in Nunawading

"We’ll take care of the details, so you don’t have to"

Burial is one of the most traditional ways to say goodbye, and for many families in Nunawading it remains a deeply meaningful choice. It involves the interment of your loved one in a local cemetery or burial ground, such as Box Hill Cemetery, typically following a formal funeral service. Having a permanent, physical place to visit can bring great comfort to family and friends in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, both in the days after a loss and for many years to come. One of the most important decisions after a loss is choosing between burial and cremation. Even when we have thought about this for ourselves, it is rarely an easy conversation. We serve families across Nunawading and the surrounding area, and we are here to take the weight off your shoulders and walk you through the whole process, gently and without pressure, so you do not feel overwhelmed during an already difficult time.

Why Choose a Burial in Nunawading?

A traditional burial allows you to honour your loved one with a permanent resting place and a tangible memorial. Whether that is a family plot where generations can gather, a beautiful headstone that tells their story, or a garden of remembrance you can visit on a quiet afternoon, burial is an option that respects both tradition and the very human need for a place to grieve.

  • Gentle Permanence: Burial creates a lasting place of connection. It provides a physical location where family and friends can visit, reflect, and feel close to your loved one for years to come.
  • Meaningful and Supported: Our wish is to carry the heavy lifting for you. We look after all the necessary arrangements, cemetery coordination, and transport, so you can focus on healing and remembering.
  • Respectful Tradition: Many families find deep comfort in time-honoured rituals. A burial allows you to incorporate cultural, religious, or family traditions in a way that feels right, ensuring a farewell that honours both your loved one and your heritage.

Do I need to purchase a burial plot in advance?

No, you don’t need to purchase a plot in advance, though some families choose to for peace of mind.

One of the advantages of pre-planning is the ability to select a meaningful location and potentially lock in current prices. However, we understand that not everyone is in a position to plan ahead. By partnering with Bethel Funerals, we can help you find available burial plots that suit your needs and budget when the time comes, whether that’s in a traditional cemetery, natural burial ground, or memorial garden.

By working with various cemeteries and offering transparent pricing, everyone has access to dignified burial options without pressure or confusion.

No matter what financial status a person has, they should have access to a beautiful final resting place, and we can help make that happen.

Burial Funeral Services in Nunawading - Frequently Asked Questions

A burial involves placing your loved one’s body in a casket and interring it in a cemetery or burial ground, creating a permanent physical memorial. Cremation uses heat to reduce the body to ashes, which can then be kept, scattered, or interred.

The main differences are that burial provides a specific place to visit and pay respects, maintains the body intact, and often aligns with certain religious or cultural traditions. Cremation offers more flexibility with remains and typically has lower costs.

At Bethel Funerals, we respect both choices and can help you decide which option best honours your loved one and your family’s wishes.

Yes, absolutely. A funeral service before burial is a traditional and meaningful way to celebrate your loved one’s life. We can arrange a service at our chapel, a church, or another meaningful location before proceeding to the cemetery for the burial. This gives family and friends the opportunity to gather, share memories, and say goodbye together. The service can be religious or non-religious, formal or informal—whatever feels right for your family. We’ll guide you through all the options and help create a service that truly honours the life lived.

Choosing a cemetery depends on several factors: location convenience for family visits, religious or cultural requirements, available plot types, costs, and the overall atmosphere of the grounds.

At Bethel Funerals, we work with cemeteries throughout Brisbane and surrounding areas, and we’re happy to help you explore your options. Consider whether you want a traditional lawn cemetery, a natural burial ground, a memorial garden, or a specific religious cemetery. We’ll discuss what matters most to your family, whether that’s proximity to home, specific features like waterfront views, or affordability, and help you find a resting place that feels right.

Water Cremation, or alkaline hydrolysis, is a gentle, eco-friendly alternative to both traditional flame cremation and burial. Instead of using fire or earth, Water Cremation uses water and an alkaline solution to naturally return the body to its essential elements. At Bethel Funerals, we are proud to offer Water Cremation through our Queensland locations in partnership with The Gentle Way.

Please note that this service is currently available in Queensland only and is not yet offered through our Melbourne locations. Unlike burial, which requires land use and a permanent plot, Water Cremation uses 90% less energy than flame cremation and produces no direct emissions, making it the most environmentally responsible option available. Families receive ashes similar to traditional cremation, which can be kept, scattered, or interred, with the peace of mind that comes from choosing the gentlest process available.
